About This Book

IF YOU WERE to peruse the titles in the business section of the bookstore, surf the web or go to your local library, you wouldn’t have any trouble locating a large number of informative books that will teach you how to sell or license your idea, your design or your invention….and if you haven’t invested in one of those, now is the time to do it. However, the question most frequently posed to me isn’t how to sell an idea, but where to sell it, a question unfortunately left unanswered in the copious selection of “how to” books.

Akin to a writer’s market, Inventor’s Market is a directory of manufacturers that buy or license innovative ideas and products from the general population with the intention of bringing them to market. Also included are a handful of product scouts, direct marketing companies*, and informative links to information and services that will benefit the aspiring inventor.

Before contacting a potential partner for your idea, study the company’s product lines and their needs to verify that they are a good match for your innovation. Once you have determined the company or companies that have similar interests, make sure that you follow their submission guidelines exactly.
Always verify the integrity of a business and learn the best way to protect your interests before submitting your ideas. For your own protection, it would be wise to consult with an attorney before you sign any contractual agreement.

This book is intended as a directory and at the time of this writing the information is current, but please, be aware, that at some point policies, contact information and website formats may change.

Best of luck on your venture!

*Some of the direct marketing companies require that your product already be manufactured.

The information included on licensing, patents & copyrights is for the reader’s benefit, but does not constitute or take the place of professional legal advice.
